WI the Mob kills Tom Dewey

If they'd killed Dewey then as they feared New York would've initiated a ferocious crackdown on the mob. Killing Dewey would've done more harm than good to the mafia, which is why they didn't do it.

Down the line, in US politics I think without Dewey Wendell Willkie is renominated by the GOP in 1944 but he loses a second time. Stassen is the likely nominee in 1948, and if he campaigns hard against Truman then he will probably win.

Willkie was dead in 1944. Dewey got the nomination a second time because he campaigned hard against FDR in 1944 and the election wound up closer than most people expected. Now 1948 is wide open. I don't know enough about the mob and police dynamic to make an informed comment.

That's why Luciano had Dutch Schultz killed before he could carry it out, which is one of the few good things he did...

Yep. Part of the general trend American organized crime has mostly gone by for most of the past century. Basically don't try and publically declare war on the Government/Law enforcement. It'd be bad for business and result in brutal crackdowns.

When Mac did return to the US and investigate politics he pretty much shot himself in the foot. The Republican leaders who met him discreetly recoiled, realizing Macs personality, ego, attitudes, whatever would repel voters when he entered the public view. Someone observed MacArthur the war hero was easy to love from a far distance, but you wondered why after you actually met and got to know him. My take is Mac the Candidate of 1944 would be Mac the outcast in 1948.
