What if Margaret of Austria married Charles VIII with her dowries Artois and Franche Comte, who would Anne of Brittany marry, could she marry Philip the Fair or his father, or she could marry the alternate heir to Brittany..
That would mean Brittany stays independent. Either Anne of Brittany stays married to Maximillian or Charles marries her to a suitable French noble. In the event Charles has an heir with Margaret, this would mean radically different Valois. Reations with the Hapsburgs might be improved for a bit but not that much. Depends on what Charles' son is like.
Not independant. It just retains its own line of dukes inside the kingdom of France. You can have the french king marry the next generation heiress of Britanny.
To say the least. IIRC,after the last Duke rebellion (anne's father), the French had permanent garrisons in all but 3 of the duchy castles and fotified cities
