WI the Jordanian monarchy is overthrown in 1958 and Jordan joins the UAR?

What if, after the fall of the Hashemite Monarchy in Iraq, the Jordanian Hashemite monarchy had been overthrown by un uprising led by Palestinians and supported by Nasser? Say this happens before the British paratroops arrive. What happens? Would the country join the United Arab Republic?

Would this increase the lifespan of the short-live republic, now that "the Upper region of the UAR" (Syria) and Egypt are closer?

What does Israel and the West do?

Might Iraq also join the UAR in such a scenario, as many expected back then?

What happens in the long term?

Any thoughts?

Sorry, wrong forum. This should be moved to the post-1900 forum. Could anyone tell the mods, and ask them to move the thread?

Thanks!

Israel and the West are Freaked out, but post Suez crisis no one on ether side makes a move, my guess is that the UAR falls apart any ways, Jordan is fucked by this in a big way, the Arab Legion was the finest army in the Arab world at the time, in the Six Day War giving it over to Egyptian leadership led to the fall of the West Bank, this would be that times 1,000, non-Palestinian officers would be purged and the Legion cut off from American arms, it'd likely be as unready and poorly trained as all the other Arab Armies, the West Bank would fall in an afternoon

a Palestinian State in Jordan would put the Palestinian issue in the ice box for every one, I can see Israel giving Palestinians free passage to the East Bank, we see an Israel Annexing land rather than holding it for peace, I see no reason that a Six-Day War like war wouldn't happen in TTL maybe sooner because of Palestinian terrorists supported by Jordan rather than just Syria, if its sooner thats all the worse for Nasser would was busy in Yemen, in 1965 there were 70,000 Egyptians there.

This interestingly would unify Egypt, Syria, Jordan, and the Palestinians. The only "core" Arab state not in this is Iraq, which almost joined OTL anyways and probably will ITTL.
The UAR might fall apart between Egypt and the rest because Israel is in the way. The other states have a land connection and more of a shared history. I doubt they will split apart. This makes the Middle East much happier, since the Palestinians surely will be perfectly content with being in the UAR ;)

No they wouldn't. The UAR was always bound to fall apart due to the fact that Nasser absolutely refused to share any of his power with the Syrians and majorly pissed off the Ba'ath. It's not going to get any better with the Jordanians in it.

Which is why I would said if it fell apart it would fall apart between Egypt and the rest.
