WI: The Jonestown Siege

On the afternoon of November 18th, 1978, Congressman Leo Ryan, fourteen Jonestown defectors, and eighteen aids and representatives were attacked at the Port Kaituma airstrip while getting ready to leave. Five were killed, including Congressman Ryan, but the rest managed to get into the air and make it back to the capitol of Georgetown. Later that night, the inhabitants of Jonestown famously committed "revolutionary suicide" with poisoned Kool-aid.

What if, instead, Jones decided to hole up in Jonestown and fight it out? IOTL, Jones seems to have settled on mass suicide months beforehand; if we assume he decides instead to die fighting, he has about $26 million in the bank to buy arms, ammunition, and food (Jonestown is not actually self-sufficient in food) before Congressman Ryan's visit. They have almost 1,000 people on the premises, including an armed "Red Brigade." They're in extremely rough terrain - the only way in or out is by boat or air. How long do they hold out, and what's the long-term impact?
