WI the German High Command had gone for peace?

OTL, the civilian German government wanted a compromise peace with the Allies after beating Russia, but Hindenburg and Ludendorff decided to gamble it all on the Spring Offensive and lost everything.

What if they decided instead to try and make peace? I'm not even sure if the offer would be accepted, but what do you think? And what would have happened after the war was over?

Doubt it would fly at all. Even in a "compromise peace" the military government would still want to keep some of its conquests, which would be completely unacceptable to the Entente Powers.

A compromise peace with the Entente was impossible. The peace aims of the Entente could only be achieved by a dictate to totally beaten Central Powers. - No unbeaten CP government could/would ever have accepted them.
All attempts by the CP to start negotating were bluntly refused by the Entente.

If the German Generals had looked to peace and not declared unconditional UB War they would have had a good chance. No USA entry would mean little chance of breaking through the German lines - Russia out of war - Italy basically defeated - Serbia - Romania out of war - Britan basically bankrupt and and France reduced

Germany was in a difficult situation from a food source problem but if they could have held out in a defensive posture they would have begun recieving good size quanities of material by mid 1919.

Britain had managed to finance the war before 1917 by playing the wall street stock markets. Just because the USA doesn't enter the war doesn't mean Britain goes bankrupt. And the USA played only a minor role in the hundred days offensive. Bolstered by the arrival of veterans of the middle east campaign and fresh reserves from England it's very possible that the BEF can lead the allies to victory.
