Any ramifications to the French dismantling the Eiffel Tower in 1909, other than that we lose the Eiffel Tower?
I think the French used it to intercept key German radio transmissions during or before the battle of the Marne, can't remember where I heard it, but if true, well things could go better for Germany there. Almost certainly not enough to win the war outright in Fall of '14, but possibly allowing German success, at the Marne, or in the later Race to the Sea, enough to put Germany in a position where she could win WWIAny ramifications to the French dismantling the Eiffel Tower in 1909, other than that we lose the Eiffel Tower?

Coincidentally enough, this is what I was listening to when I discovered this thread.
Question: What was the "cultural status" of the Tower in 1909? My understanding is that, when it was first proposed in the 1880s, many commentators viewed it as an industrialistic eyesore. Was it still sufficiently "un-canonized" by 1909 that someone could propose ripping it down without much controversy?
