WI the Flying Tigers attacked Japan? Impossible you say? Not really, no. There
was a plan drafted by Claire Lee Chennault, the head of the Flying Tigers, (officially, the American Volunteer Group, also known as the AVG,) called JB
351. It called for more pilots of Army, Navy, and Marine Corps pilots, to join
the ranks of the Flying Tigers. I first heard about it on 20/20 in December of
1991, just before the 50th anniversary of Pearl Harbor. The plan called for a
squadron of Lockheed Hudson bombers to be sent to China and the pilots to
fly them from airfields in China to bomb Japan. The plan itself is, or was, in
the National Archives.
