Nobody likes car TLs, but I do, so here's another dead end.

In 1967 the FIA stipulated prototype sports racers were to be 3 litres and GT cars with more than 50 produced could be 5 litres. The result was a disaster: Ferrari boycotted 1968, Ford dropped the GT40 and built the P68 which sucked, Porsche has the 908 which was good enough I suppose. In April 1968, after only 4 months of poor fields the FIA changed the GT number from 50 to 25 which resulted in the Porsche 917 and later the Ferrari 512. The 3 litres sort of fell by the wayside in favour of the big bangers.

WI the FIA did something different? Perhaps they still allowed the big bangers in some form?
