WI: The Federations of Rhodesia and Nyasaland remain a colonial unit? When it (if it does) gains independence what would it be like, would it be a majority black, or minority white rule (If so could its regime last until today)? Would this larger country be competition for South Africa in the Region? What would the map of Southern Africa be like in this case? Would the federation break up sometime later? Would this state be a dominion or break ties with britian?

It broke up because it couldn't survive a year longer. The Black population was pushing for an end to colonial rule and the White population was just too small in the Central African Federation to hold on.

Southern Rhodesia had a higher percentage of Whites and had just enough men to use force to control the black population and enough whites to develop a society.

In Northern Rhodesia and Nyasaland there weren't enough whites to go it alone. If the Federation tried to stay together then white rule would have ended sooner, possibly by 1967/68 at the latest.

Finally it could only survive as a large unit with British help and approval. This approval was largely gone even before Harold Wilson came to office.
