WI: The Eagle Has Landed

Well not quite.
But WI in 1941 Churchill is killed?
Having paratroops landing and getting him is probally a bit silly so lets just assume the Germans get some good intelligance of a building in the countryside where he will be on a certain day and manage to bomb it.

What effects would this have on the conduct of the war and post-war politics?

It's not all that silly; Churchill occassionally walked to Parliament during the war in broad daylight, and his personal security was similarly minimal at plenty of other times. The wonder is that he wasn't bumped off by somebody.

The exact effect depends on exactly when in 1941.

Many people feel that Churchill made unfortunate decisions over giving priority to Greece over North Africa.

I do not think that any Britis PM after September 1940 would have looked at doing a deal with Hitler.

I rather assume that Eden would be called.

I think policy in India might have been sufficiently different to allow butterflies to include a single Indian Republic or independent Dominion.

I think that without Churchill the Conservative Party would do measurably worse than it did even in OTL both in by elections and in the 1945 general election.

Query how crucial was the apparent personal chemistry between Churchill and FDR?

By the way I had heard it claimed somewhere that Churchill was rather careless about his safety even during air raids.

Undecided about the consequences for Italy - Mountbatten did advocate Sardinia rather than Sicily. But at least there wouldn't be an Aegean campaign in '44.

Churchill's bodyguard claimed in his memoirs that the PM carried a gun all through the war and was quite a good shot. Any potential assassin might have got a shock when the target started shooting back.
