WI the Curse of Tippecanoe continues

Let's assume that the so-called Curse of Tippecanoe, the pattern where from 1840 to 1960 each US President who won an election in a year ending in zero died in office, continues to present day. This means that Presidents elected in 1980, 2000, and 2010, meet an early demise.

For Ronald Reagan, this obviously means that John Hinckley's assassination attempt is successful, his bullet goes an inch deeper, perforates Reagan's heart, and he dies on March 30, 1981.

What about the 2000 President ? According to this rather well-done TL, the 1981 assassination of Reagan would most likely create the following Presidental sequence:

George HW Bush, 1981-1989
Robert W. "Bob" Kasten, 1989-1997
Robert F. "Bobby" Kennedy Jr., 1997-2005
Scott P. Brown 2005-present

As it concerns RFK Jr., since he's still alive and in good health, and because a third Kennedy assassination would fit nicely with the scenario's theme of eerie sequences, I'm going to assume it is going to be another Presidential assassination, perhaps a Christianist anti-abortion terrorist (assuming it is not too implausible for the Secret Service to keep screwing up this way), sometimes during his second term. By the way, according to that TL, RFK Jr. would be succeeded by VP Ann W. Richards, who would not seek re-election due to advanced age.

RFK Jr. cannot be elected President after 1983 because he's a ultraprog RL troll and a multiple felon, plus you forgot about the 22nd Amendment. This whole scenario is downright ASB after 1997.

If the POD is before 1983, preferably before 1978, then electing him is possible. Otherwise no. It isn't well-known that he, not his more famous cousin, was the presidentiable for many years...

Whoops, I've corrected the dates. Otherwise, what wargamer6 said. I've used the the scenario you wrote, RB.

You mean Scott Brown? Most likely he finishes his term and the POTUS elected in 2020, a Republican if the two-term alternation rule prevails, gets assassinated.

There wouldn't be a Presidential election in 2010. Next one ending in Zero will be in 2020.

Bush won't be a 'Teflon President'. 1984 will probably be closer, though Bush still probably pulls it off. The Democrats win back the Senate in 1986 and Bush might end up facing down impeachment hearings over Iran-Contra. At any rate, he's a lamer duck than was Reagan near the end of the eighties, and the Democrats ride his unpopularity to the White House.

Democrats hold the White House until 1997. Republican elected that gets re-elected in 2000 but dies shortly after. His Veep is probably not re-elected, and the Democrats take back the White House in 2004.

I did not realize that Iran Contra was inevitable.
