The British Centurion tank entered service late 1945, just too late for involvement in World War II. It turned out to be a superb design serving with distinction in Korea, the Six Day War and many other places.

Now the design work on the Centurion began in 1943 and assuming that with a little foresight we can go to a production MkII rather than a prototype Mk I, which is essentially what happened, this would give us a spec of :

20 Pounder (84mm) Main Gun
A front glacis - Highly sloped, 118mm, sides and rear of 51mm
Turret armour 152mm

Which could actually compete against the likes of a Panther or even a Tiger.

ATL :

The army having with the experiences of North Africa, "Tigerphobia", and reports from Russia on German tanks push all out for the new design. Production is ramped up earlier and major resupply to units at home is managed for D-Day.

Can this impact the outcome of the war significantly ?

The British breakout through Caen quicker, no Falais gap ? Can the drive to Arnham be achieved and lead to an earlier end to the war ?

Thoughts ?
