WI: The Altalena made it ashore?
I looked and there was already a thread on WI the Altalena affair could result in a civil war. However, I think a more important question as well as potential threat to the stability of a unified Israeli government which Ben Gurion through the Haganah and others strive to assemble out the triad of militias, municipalities and Kibbutz was a potentially great infusion of manpower and material of stark ideological rival, the Irgun.
The ship Altalena was not only a vessel which carried 940 additional members and large arms for what was for all intended purposes an extremist group but also the hopes which that group would be provided continued and full tacit approval of an influential Western government, the French. The reason for such an action on what would be a considered As we all know the Altalena affair did result in the French government eventually to consider Ben Gurion's Labor founded Parliamentary Democracy as the official government of the State of Israel.
In short, if the Altalena made it ashore would it have made the Irgun a strong enough force in the region (if not physically then politically) to shape the state of Israel (increase Manachem Begin's influence much earlier then OTL), perhaps form their own breakaway Jewish State somewhere maybe in Judea and Samaria or just make the Jewish state remained a largely divided entity unrecognized by the UN and only united to face a common foe? I invite anyone familiar with the history of this incident or region to dispute what I posted.
