WI the Americans were part of the LON

If Wilson gets the USA into the League, I doubt Washington will be very active. Certainly little to no military involvement, maybe sanctions (Abyssinia comes to mind), not too sure about the Japanese in Manchuria.

Would America being part of the League of Nations have prevented WWII?
Would it have survived until present day?

It would have helped but the war was not a matter of international misunderstanding and politics as much as it was Hitler's desire for war and conquest and Japanese agression in a distracted world. The LON would not have prevented the depression nor the rise of the Nazi's and facists.

However a stronger league might have seen the Americans in the war from the beginning or possibly even delayed the war by a year. Instead of the UN, the LON might be completley revamped and it would still exsist in name.

I'll side with the pessimists (wow, what a surprise, I know).

Interwar US had neither the actual military power, nor the international outlook & will to provide the LON enough 'oomph' to make a difference.

Also, as noted above, institutions like the LoN or UN are fine and dandy if wars are the result of misunderstandings or confusion. They're not so helpful when wars are the deliberate result of conscious calculation (however incorrect those calculations may latter turn out to be) and/or intention.

Consider the classic bar-room moments: It's easy to keep your buddy from accidentally getting into a fight - watch where he goes, keep him from stumbling, etc. But stopping him from slugging someone whom he's consciously decided to take a swing at is a lot harder.
