WI the Abwehr was dissolved in 1940?

After doing extensive research on the German intelligence and security agencies like the RHSA, Abwehr and Sicherheitsdienst (SD), I concluded that too much competition between the branches led to a less than effective counter to MI6 or later the OSS. In 1944, after repeated failures and a lack of trust between himself and the Abwehr, Hitler dissolved the agency, denying the Wehrmacht of their own intelligence department--handing over control to the SD. Its common knowledge that Canaris, chief of the Abwehr was less than an enthusiastic party member--even so much as to be labeled an anti-NAZI. And its widely believed, though not proven, that he sabotaged the German intelligence efforts by leaking information. My question is: what if the Abwehr was dismantled earlier in the war, maybe 1940? It could be due to scandal, treachery--you name it, so long as Hitler sees the Abwehr as a threat to the war effort and relinquishes control to Himmler's SD. What effect would this have on the outcome of the war?

None on the actual outcome, but not sending Canaris to Spain in 1940 could potentially butterfly into a Spanish entry (don't hold your breath though)

I will wonder if inertia will still lead to infighting between various agents and commanders. This may still lead to confused reactions to Allied actions and deceptions.

The entire Abwehr ? Including army intelligence analysis for example ? That would be a _major_ loss of face for the wehrmacht, which would not like it at all. And wasn´t the SD actually fairly small and specialized ? IMO creating the RSHA earlier and incorporating it makes more sense. But even that seems unlikely to me: a) even stalin´s USSR had a seperate military intelligence organization and b) having several and competing offices was part of hitler´s way to maintain supreme power.

The problem being, if you ditch Abwehr, the British won't even need insider information to pick up new agents, because SD agents simply weren't even worth bothering with in regards to infiltration. Basically, you could be a good Nazi or a good spy, but you had to pick one or the other.
