WI: "Tarawa" class LPH's used in the Falklands

Would OV-10_Broncos really be kept rather than more harriers ?

Would a Tarawa not end up as just another deck for more Shar or GRs (not that that's a bad thing)

I agree - perhaps base the SHARS on the Hermes and Invincible and the GR1s based on some or all of the Tarawas allowing the SHARS to be used in their Primary role.

Exactly, just image the number of sorties you could do with GR-3's with quick turnarounds in the style of RAF Germany vs WARPAC attack planning based on the LPH's just a few miles off the beachhead.

The mind boggles on how quicker the Battle of Goose Green would have developed with more Harrier support. Also the battles for Longdon, Twin Sisters, Harriet, Wireless Ridge, Tumbledown etc, especially in the dark with night vision equipment.

OV-10 as FAC at that time, had low light gear and laser designators for PGMs, besides a couple MGs and some rocket pods.

That's why the Marines liked them

To be honest, I don't know if this is true but wasn't this the type of mission that the Argie designed and built Pucara was put into service for, ie "Bushfire wars".

Unfortunately the Falklands campaign was nothing like a "Bushfire war" and as a consequence was found wanting in the face of a modern air defence system and suffered a total wipe out in numbers lost, especially at Pebble Island courtesy of the SAS.
