After Surena won a great victory over a Roman army at the Battle of Carrhae, the Parthian king Orodes II rewarded him by having him executed.

What if Surena learned what Orodes had planned for him and rebelled to try and preserve his own life?

Doubt it. Even if Persia was divided the Romans never had the ability to conquer and hold Mesopotamia let alone Persian itself. Especially since Roman rule in the east was not as strong as was in later years.
