WI: Summer Olympics every 2 years?

What if the Summer Olympics took the same format as the Winter Olympics did in 1994 and happened every 2 years as opposed to every 4 years. Other than training time being significantly cut in half, what other changes could this lead to?

The Olympics would be somewhat less prestigious. No more host cities building half a dozen new stadiums specifically for their Olympic Games, opening and closing ceremonies slightly less massive and spectacular than in real life. Especially if the Winter Olympics are still held in the in-between years (Summer Olympics in even years, Winter Olympics in the uneven years?) we would be having Olympic Games every year, making the event a lot less special and magical to the general public.

Also in this scenario, the football World Cup would probably also be held every 2 years instead of 4 years. Similar to how the Champions League and UEFA Cup club competitions are being played simultaniously, in this alternate timeline the elite countries (Brazil, Germany, Italy) would of course still go to the World Cup, while the "lesser countries" who didn't qualify for the World Cup, like perhaps Austria, Peru and Morocco, would play in the regional continental championship (UEFA European Championship, Copa America, Africa Cup).

It may help make Olympic centric sports like track and field and swimming and gymnastics more popular because they would get a big stage every two years instead of every four years.

You'll probably have less NBA players playing Olympic basketball (or at least fewer star players) because the franchises will not to accept the risk.

If this already started in 1994, then the Olympic schedules would have been less inflated. I guess some disciplines would have stayed demonstration sports, which used to be held pre 1992/94 - such as baseball at the Summer Olympics and snowboard or ski cross at the Summer Olympics. In fact, maybe the whole schedule would actually be scaled down.

I think it would depend on when the change occurred. If it always was two years, then it probably wouldn't be as popular, but if this started after Barcelona or was more recent, then I think it would still be very popular. Though it would put more stress on places with already set arenas to host more.

If I'll have enough time in the next weeks, I might create a list of the Swimming medalists based on this idea. That's my list of host cities:

1992 Barcelona, Spain
1994 Atlanta, USA
1996 Athens, Greece
1998 Sydney, Australia
2000 Beijing, China
2002 Manchester, United Kingdom
2004 Buenos Aires, Argentina
2006 Istanbul, Turkey
2008 Toronto, Canada
2010 Paris, France
2012 Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
2014 Madrid, Spain
2016 Tokyo, Japan
2018 Rome, Italy
