WI: Successful Truman Assassination

In OTL, on November 1st 1950 two Puerto Ricans, Oscar Collazo and Griselio Torresola, attempted to assassinate Harry Truman whilst the President resided at the Blair House. Torresola was killed in the attempt, but not before killing one of the White House police/Secret Service agents on the scene. Truman was unharmed.

Now, what happens if Truman was successfully assassinated here - somehow. How exactly would this affect Presidential politics, and perhaps even Secret Service, and even Puerto Rico.
And what would a Alben W. Barkley presidency look like?

President Barkley

If President Truman was assassinated on November 1, 1950 ... then, of course, Vice President Alben Barkley would become the 34th president of the United States.
Barkley, 72 years old, (to be 73 on November 24, 1950), would become the oldest president to serve in that office.

With the sympathy, from losing a president, extended toward him by the citizens of the United States, we, the people would support him, as he takes over the problems of the nation and the world.

As of the 1952 elections ... I will predict that because of his age ... he chooses not to run for his own term.
So we may see exactly what we saw in real time ... with Kefauver and Stevenson battling it out on the Democratic side while Eisenhower goes against Taft for the Republican nomination.

BTW: In real time, Barkley suffers a heart attack and dies in 1956.
MAKE THAT SOONER if he was to be elected to his own term ... because of the stress of the presidency. Either way ... Barkley would have died in office.
