WI: Successful Olive Branch Petition

The Olive Branch Petition was adopted by the Second Continental Congress on July 5, 1775, in a final attempt to avoid a full-on war between the Thirteen Colonies, that the Congress represented, and Great Britain. The petition affirmed American loyalty to Great Britain and entreated the king to prevent further conflict.

What if the King responded favourably to the Olive Branch petition and opened negotiations with the 13 coloneis so as to avert war? OTL, the petition was undermined by the writings of people like Adams who viewed war as inevitable so assume Adams keeps his thoughts to himself and that there is no Declaration of the Causes and Necessity of Taking Up Arms.

The Olive Branch Petition was undermined by the fact it took so long to get to England that it got superceded by events.

To be honest, it wouldn't work even if you avoided that. George III was a proud man and would have regarded parliament as the only rightful limit on his power. He would regard the colonists doing this as trying to go over the heads of parliament, out of the constitutional order. He was also close to the North ministry, so the complaints in the petition about the hostilities of the King's minister wouldn't go down well. And the next day, Congress release the Declaration of the Causes and Necessity of Taking Up Arms, which would just be more explosive.

If you want to avert the revolution, you need the colonies and parliament to come to terms, and then have parliament present the terms as a fait accompli to the King. You can't leave parliament out of the process. The different conceptions of parliament between America and Britain was one of the things that led to the breakdown.
