WI: Successful Klein-Venedig

Klein-Venedig was the most significant attempt by Germany to colonize the Americas, particularly Venezuela:

So what if the colonization attempt was successful, without being interrupted by the Spanish? Was Klein-Venedig doom to fail in the first place? Would a successful Klein-Venedig eventually lead to a pre-1871 German colonial empire?

Klein- Venedig was weird because it was backed by the Welser banker family, not a a European state. Wasn't really seen by Charles V as him ceding anything away, he was after all both King of Spain and Holy Roman Emperor, thus the Welsers were his subjects.
