In the 16th C., the French, Spanish, and English all made a few attempts to establish colonies along the Atlantic coast of North America. They all failed, except those St. Augustine, Florida. The French succeeded in the north and the English in the middle in the 17th C.

But, what if some of the 16th C. colonies were sucessful or additional attempts succeded, and the colonies ended more interspersed, so that, instead of simply having New France, British North America, and New Spain, all contiguous, you have a series of non-contiguous French, British, and Spanish colonies all mixed up. (A sort of North American fruit basket turnover, if you will. :p)

Is it plausable? If so, what happens?
