WI Stuka replaced 1939-40

OPB-5 with corrected engine cowl.

The Hs-129 was an anti-tank gunship that never got the better gun that the Ju-87G carried. Some targets needed a bomb. Would a Me-210 that worked(Me-410) have been effective in the role? Could it have been a bigger Hs-129? Perhaps with BMW 801 engines.

The basic A-series aircraft were armed with two 7.92 mm (.312 in) MG 17 machine guns and two 20 mm MG 151/20 cannons in the nose and delivered as the Me 410 A-1 light bomber. The originally planned Me 410 A-2 heavy fighter was cancelled because the dual 30 mm (1.18 in) MK 103 cannon pack was not ready in time. The Me 410A featured a bomb bay for carrying air-to-ground ordnance or for the installation of additional air-to-air weaponry or other equipment. Initially, three Umrüst-Bausätze (conversion kits) were available, U1 contained a palette of cameras for the photo-reconnaissance role, U2 two 20 mm MG 151/20 cannon with 250 rpg for the heavy fighter use, and U4 used the 50 mm (2 in) Bordkanone series weapon, the BK-5 cannon with 21 rounds, to turn the aircraft into a dedicated bomber destroyer. The BK 5 cannon - derived from the Panzer III tank's main armament, the 50 mm (2 in) KwK 39 L/60 - allowed the Me 410s to shoot at their targets from over 914 m (1,000 yd), a distance at which the bombers' defensive armament, usually consisting of the "light-barrel", .50 calibre AN/M2 aviation version of the M2 Browning machine guns, was useless. Frequent problems with jamming and limited ammunition supply (together with the extra weight of the large gun) made the other anti-bomber versions of Me 410, especially those with extra 20 mm MG 151/20s, much more useful.

Yep, it could carry a big gun; probably a 7.5cm if necessary.

Hs 132 the final Stuka

Gents,

You forget that Henschel did actualy produce a replacement for the Ju87.

Jet powered and with a prone pilot position to minimise head on AAA risk

Lovely piece of kit - but it would have taken real nerves to divebomb headfirst IMHO:)

A barely disguised oka

At the time Fieseler was working on a manned V1 ( more appropriately womanned V1 since the it was tested by Hannah Reitsch) that was intended for suicide missions. things were getting pretty desperate there. I think the prone pilot had more to do with minimising drag and avoid g induced black outs than AA survivability.
Great work on the OPB with the La style nose JL! I can't believe I didn't name that one on the aircraft that should have been built thread.

wasn't the pilot supposed to 'escape'? Granted, they would prolly get swallowed by the engine, but they envisioned a way to 'escape'.

Ence the barely

Without a downwards ejection seat nobody would survive, plus, it would reduce the accuracy to very low levels if the pilot bailed out. But the LW was ashamed to call it suicide so they pretended it wasn't a suicide weapon.
They did plan a large scale near suicide op in which hundreds of lightened fighters were going to ramm US day bombers. It was sabotaged by most LW commanders and failed.

You wouldn't name it because the aircraft was fairly ugly and had a tail that reminds you of a Curtiss Beast. They needed an aesthetician.

The Hs-132 wouldn't have had a range problem because the Soviets were on the other side of the factory door.
