WI - stronger india in the 1700s

What would the world be like with an india that doesnt colapse and get colonised by the british but remains a relatively stabile nation as before 1707, or split up into a couple of stabile nations at most, ider indipendant or joined in some form of federation

this asuming the rayas are more eficient in fighting the british instead of concentrating on fighting each other and taking british bribes, and a figure similar to muhamed akhbar as an emperor or maharaya, ider muslim or hindu,
take into acount also european presence both french and british and the posibility of a ruler or rulers to start modernisation as japan did in the 1800s

India was never a nation before the late 19th C- the fact that it's one now is a historical anomaly

It sounds like he's referring to the Mugal Empire, and he's in the mistaken belief that said empire covered all of India before major colonization of the subcontinent took place.

Not really... the Ghurids, Delhi Sultans, and Mughals were all foreign conquerers who united parts or most of India.

That's actually an illusion, due to the nature of Indian political theory. You never really had the unified Roman or Chinese-style Empires. Indian Imperial rule was much more decentralised. The way it worked was that local rajas would swear allegiance to their conquerors after some token battles. Those who went further than offering token resistance would be killed and replaced with friendly rulers. Either way, at the local level, governance went on relatively independent of the Imperial court.

If you had an extremely strong ruler like Aurangzeb or Akbar on the Peacock Throne in Delhi the Empire would be generally centralised but these were exceptions to the rule.

In any case, even the Moghuls never conquered the far South of India.
