WI: Stephen Fry Died In 1995?

Hey Guys,

The other day it was revealed that Stephen Fry, a British actor, comedian, presenter, author etc., tried to kill himself last year. Looking into this I found that in 1995 Fry tried to kill himself after performing on-stage and questioning how good of an actor he was. In reality he decided not to kill himself and instead went to Belgium.

However, what if he hadn't? What if Stephen Fry sat in his sealed car and turned the ignition on, hours later his body being found? At that time though he was known due to Blackadder, A Bit of Fry and Laurie and Jeeves & Wooster, I've no idea how he was viewed by Britain.

Certainly, at least today, Fry is viewed as an iconic figure and, whether you like him or not, he's a British cultural icon. On top of this he's an avid atheist - though some might call him rapid, rather than avid - and he's taken part in many political debates such as gay rights and Palestine.

So how would the loss of Fry affect 90's Britain? And how would that have ramifications on modern Britain without Fry?

Said that way, it seems that he considered that going to Belgium was a worse self-punishment than killing himself.

We'd lose a very positive role model of someone who lives with and works through mental health problems and still manages to be creative and positive. Could set back people developing a more positive view of mental health in the UK.

He's also a big advocate for gay rights I believe too.
