What if, during the 1948 Republican Presidential Primaries, Harold Stassen had beaten Robert Taft in the latter's home state of Ohio? To start, it's quite possible he gets a bit more lift in the remaining primaries, meaning he also likely beats Dewey in Oregon.

Would this have affected the National Convention later that year? For example, could Stassen have come out ahead of Taft (in second instead of third) on the first ballot? And might the resultant nomination have been changed as well (possibly nominating Earl Warren or Stassen instead of Dewey)?

And given how the RNC is affected (if at all), how is the general election affected? Or subsequent elections, or history in general?
