WI: Stalin killed in the Polish-Soviet War?

So Stalin was one of the military commanders against the Poles in this war, and he disobeyed orders from superiors to assist at Warsaw, focusing on the Ukrainian city of Lvov. What if Stalin had been killed at Lvov, or after for disobeying orders? Does this have any impact on the P-S War? Does it affect the treaty of Riga? Can Ukraine remain independent? How do things play in the USSR post Lenin's death?

For answering your questions. First and the most important is that his death during the battle of Lwów didn't change anything in the intemedientaly outcome of the war and the peace of Riga. And Ukraine had been already subjugated by the reds, a dead member of the politbeauro don't change that.

For the USSR post Lenin's demise, that's an interesting question with a lot of possibilities which lead to many many alternate timelines. It is just a great starting point for writing your own timeline :)

Probably means Trotsky becomes leader of the USSR after Lenin dies. Probably.

Trotsky was still really hard to work with. Zinoviev or Kamanev could easily take power

Oh I know, it’s why I dropped the “probably” in there.

I just feel Trotsky’s proximity to Lenin and role in the (presumably) victorious outcome to the RCW would make him the shoo-in for leadership minus Stalin's machinations. Stalin had to work quite hard in his positions within the Party machinery to oust Trotsky.

My heart whispers Dzierżyński for the leader of the Soviet Empire. Sadly that rather not very possible.

So if no Trotsky, maybe an early form of collective leadership?
