WI Stalin invaded... SWITZERLAND

The military prowess of the Swiss seems destined to be forever exaggerated.

No doubt the Country of Switzerland would have cost Stalin 250,000 men. I doubt he would have even blinked.

Where are these 250,000 losss going to come from? Its hard to see it descending into a second Finland where Red Army forces are just sent to freeze to death for no purpose and that I think is a requirement for such a bodycount. If the Swiss go to ground, its hard to see them killing or wounding that many people before starvation renders them a non-existent force. If they stand and fight they shall be crushed.

I don't know about the foreign situation, but if its 1945 Red Army vs the Swiss, the Soviets just bring up enough artillery to blow any real opposition apart.

It is my belief that if the western allies did not invade France in 1944 the Germans would continue to use it as an area to rebuild burn out division from the east and would dispatch restored divisions to the east. Thus the germans would have had far greater ability to deal with the soviet offensive in June of 1944 in the east. Thus it is unlikely that the soviets would have been able to fight their way through Germany and then would have the ability to invade Switzerland.

No western government would even consider allowing Stalin to invade a western country. To invade Switerland would show the rest of the world that Stalinand the Soviets were as bad a threat to western freedom as the Nazi's were. The political reprecussions would be unbelievable neither FDR nor Truman would tolerate it. Thus it would mean war.

If conditions were to even remotely be any where near this there would be no German forces in France as they would all have been recalled to the fatherland to defend it thus the western powers would have occuppied France and have moved to the German border,
