WI Spiro Agnew not indicted

He gets indicted after being president, and as for his presidency, it'll probably be horrible with hawkishness more suited for the 1950s than the 1980s. That's gonna cast a dark shadow on the GOP, and they're gonna be smashed by someone in 1976.

Let's say he doesn't take the bribes. he becomes President and is a conservative President. He led in primary polls in 1973 and governs in a more conservative manner than Ford. He'd beat Reagan in the primary. Not sure if he beats the Democrat nominee.

I agree he'd govern conservatively, and therefore fend off Reagan (if he even chooses to run against Agnew) however would a conservative Agnew taking over after Nixon have a moderate run against him in the primary and would Agnew be able to fight off said moderate? If he does, the GOP is toast in '76. Ford ran an exceptionally well campaign, I don't see Agnew doing the same.

Nixon wasn't a fan of Agnew, saying "No assassin in their right mind would kill me, because they'd have Agnew as President." I think it's possible that if Agnew remained as VP it might be somewhat harder to impeach Nixon, leading Watergate to get dragged out even longer.

Granted, I'm no Agnew expert and most of my perception of him is tainted by how he was portrayed in Gumbo (not that I consider Drew's portrayal inaccurate, of course), but I have a hard time seeing Reagan challenging Agnew.
