WI: Spanish Spice Islands

I was thinking what if the Spanish gained the Spice Islands and Maluku and maintained Ternate and Manado and these become the focus of the Spanish.

I think a better POD would be Northern Luzon asking for help from the Portuguese regarding Tondo against the Bruneians instead of making peace with the Bruneians, the POD is between the sack of Malacca and the Magellan expedition.

Would the Spice Islands go to the US or would the extra resources be enough to win the Spanish-American War?
This would butterfly it..

I think since Spain has the Spice Islands rather than Northern Luzon, it would be less affected by revolts and has control of the spice trade...and the Portuguese would have a better access to Japan and the old Malay trade..Portugal can also get Okinawa/Ryukyu if lucky.

Could Spain get all the Philippine Islands and all the Moluccas too?

Northern Luzon is rebellious causing overextension, if they have only Mindanao as the rebellious part it would be better, they can hold Manado and Spice Islands in that way.
I think if Portugal is in union with Spain if Northern Luzon is under Portugal it is under the Portuguese crown but still under Spanish control the rest of the Philippines+Maluku can be under the Castillan/New Spain rule.

Then the question is can the Spanish fortify themselves succesfully or will they be kicked out in the same systemic way as the Portuguese were.

Yes, they can since they were able to fortify Luzon from revolts.
These are different kind of attacks. The VOC comes from the sea. That means that they can cut off any direct supply. Normally this wouldn't be necessarilly a problem, but if the Spanish are already overstretched, there will be too litle suplies too begin with.
An overstretch will also mean that other places are less well defended. The VOC did blockade Manilla to transfer the Chinese trade to their outposts. A weakening here can mean they might consider taking the place.

That is why the Spanish need to give up N. Luzon to portugal or not pursue N. Luzon if they focus on the spice trade.
