WI: Spanish Commonwealth in 1819/1821?

Was it for Spain still possible to have a British like commonwealth over their (former) Mainland American colonies in lets say... 1821? Or 1819?

I'm considering a timeline and if the members here know more about this subject I can use your information :)

I think you'd need a POD further back than that. At least something during the Napoleonic Wars, pre-1808 and possibly pre-1805. This late, there's just not enough breathing room to defuse tensions, at least as I understand the situation.

Either get someone more reasonable than Ferdinand or Carlos on the throne, or completely neuter the power of the throne and form a constitutional monarchy.

While some figures like Bolivar were strong republicans, others like San Martin and Iturbide favored a monarchy. I believe New Spain actually first offered the throne to Ferdinand, so that he would be king of both Spain and Mexico.

If you are just interested in the period between 1819-1821 just butterfly Riego's coup.If he landed in Buenos Aires San Martín had no chance of winning and if he joined forces with the Viceroy of Perú he would have beaten Bolivar with ease.Riego's coup also caused the independence of Mexico (royalist won the war but didn't want the liberal constitution that Riego implanted). So if you butterfly away Riego's coup the royalist would have won the war. From there moving to a confederation and then into a commonwealth would have been a possibility.
If you go a bit back the Count of Aranda was planning on making the Spanish empire a confederacy with 4 kings (The king of New Spain, the king of New Granada, the king of Perú and the king of la Plata) and one emperor (the emperor of Spain,Cuba,Puerto Rico,Hispaniola and the Phillipines).
