Forgive me for my ignorance, but the US prevented the European powers from carving up China? How so?

No, the United States never really prevented the European powers and Japan of carving up China that's why they acquired the Philippines to serve as their port to China. The US acquisition of the Philippines has really related to aspirations of Americans to expand their 'empire' to Asia.

Correct

Wrong

Look up 'open door policy'.

Yes, the us helped exploit china. But they demanded everyone share.

Spain never fought the Spanish/American War and still owned the Philippines in 1941 how would this of changed the war in the pacific .
Would the US get involved and would the Japanese attack the US fleet in Pear Harbor ?
How much different would the war be if Spain still owned her empire in the pacific in 1941 .

Those are a lot of butterflies to consider. I will keep it short.

If the Spanish/American War was never fought, Philippines is the only capable nation among all of the remaining Spanish colonies of breaking away from Spain since the locals had land control without any help from the Americans before even any American Army landed. Filipinos only needed naval support to win versus Spain. A support which other European powers were gladly willing to offer like Germany, etc.

Had this happen, it will totally depend on how to Philippine-Japanese alliance would last. If you are aware, OTL Dr Sun Yat Sen, Japanese government at that time, the Philippine republic at that time were allies. OTL Japan was selling weapons to both China via Dr Sun Yat Sen and Philippines via Senator Mariano Ponce.
