WI: Soviet-Turkish border war

What if the Soviet Union acted over their claims in Eastern Anatolia which they laid between 1945-1953 and launched limited offensives into Turkey to reclaim territories historically owned by Georgia and Armenia. Would the USSR be successful? Would this escalate into a full-out war with the US and UK? What would the long-term effects of this war be?

Stalin’s pressuring Turkey was the main reason for Turkey joining NATO. Truman made it very clear that the US (& I’m assuming the rest of NATO) would not stand for any invasion/attack against Turkey.

So you are saying that any attack against Turkey would be met by a declaration of war by the US?

Truman made it clear Soviet claims/threats against Turkey would not be tolerated as early as 1946. A Soviet attack in to Turkey, even before NATO, would very likely drag the US in quickly which Stalin did not want.

I wonder if the communists would have gained more support in Greece if the Soviets attacked Turkey during the Greek civil war.
