Instead of necro bumping an older thread, I've decided to start a new one on this topic. So let's say Stalin feels comfortable in escalating the Battles of Khalkhin Gol and momentarily forgoes the Winter War. How does such a conflict go, bearing in mind that the Red Army in 1939 is not the Red Army of 1945 given the recent purges? How are German-Japanese relations affected given that (presumably) Germany won't help them fight the Soviets since they're negotiating the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact? How does this affect WW II?
