Actually the idea behind the bantustans and self-governing areas and those other wonderful terms was worse.
First the black population had to be deprived of South African citizenship. That simple little thing meant that they would be migrant workers in SA.
As a migrant worker you could be kicked out of SA (and that was where the job and the money was after all) at any time
--->> Behave or else!
The place to be kicked out to would be ruled by a puppet of the SA government.
He was there to ensure that the homelands would not be a hotbed for ANC or others.
--->> NP government with clean hands. "Not our police forces or country".
Migrant workers -->> NO job security, unions, minimum wages, etc etc. sorry!
What the industry wouldn't mind too much was to lower the cost of doing business.
They were not stupid but past-masters in rule and divide.
