WI: SOPA and PIPA are passed

Something tells me that if youtube or wikipedia got kicked off the net, a great deal of people would care.
Well Wikipedia probably wouldn't be greatly affected, YouTube would be somewhere in the middle but they already take down videos at copyright holders request so the main change is simply seeing the uploaders get done by them at source, it's really only going to majorly hit the prolific pirates who are IIRC mostly in their teens or twenties. So again lots of bitching and moaning for a while from a minority with most people just not caring and it gets struck down on appeal.
 
I really doubt this was ever in the cards.

All it would have taken was one overzealous company taking copyright protection too far, and Wikipedia, Youtube, and Facebook are all gone, at which point even the most non-political, non-tech savvy people will care.

Also, the reason why SOPA ended up not having much of an impact on the 2012 election was that it failed to actually become law: if it had, the reaction would have been much different.
