In our timeline, British Somaliland and the Italian Trust Territory of Somaliland were given their respective independences under the condition that they would unify into the larger nation of Somalia.
However, tribal tensions, made worse by the presidency of dictator Siad Barrie, would result in Somalia falling into civil war thirty years later, with the territory of the former British Somaliland breaking away from Somalia and declaring itself a country while the rest of Somalia fell into anarchy, leading to the rise of al-Shabaab and the stereotypical image of the Somali pirate.
But what if the two Somalilands were given independence, but they never united to create Somalia? Would they be better off as independent nations or would the area still fall into anarchy?
