In the 1970s, the known cult and alleged religion Church of $cientology started a series of illegal acts encompassed in what was called Operation Snow White, with the objective of infiltrating government agencies in order to remove documents that were unfavourable against the Co$ and their founder, Lafayette Ron Hubbard.

Fortunately, the FBI caught them in the act and were able to dismantle the operation, as well as others such as Operation Freakout, an attempt to have journalist Paulette Cooper, a widely known critic of the Co$, imprisoned on false charges of terrorism or committed to a mental institution.

In the end, in August 1978, 11 high ranking members (one of them Mary Sue Hubbard, LRH's third wife) were indicted of 28 charges, with a few others (including LRH, which wasn't found anywhere in the US) being unindicted co-conspirators. 10 of the 11 indicted members were all condemned to prison for 2 to 6 years, and the other one was condemned to a 5-year probation and community service.

However, there is now the big question: what if Hubbard had been caught and condemned alongside the other members of the Church of $cientology for his role in the criminal dealings of the Co$? What if then the Co$ was "raised" to the same level of notoriety as the People's Temple after the massacre at Jonestown?

What do you think of this?

P.S: A potential butterfly is that the "Old" Cult Awareness Network would still exist. The "New" Cult Awareness Network, although it somewhat fulfills part of the things the "Old" CAN did, is nothing but a $cientology front.

P.P.S: The reason I use an $ instead of an S is because of the Co$ mania to say that their "sacred texts" are copyrighted and to point out that it was a religion created with the exclusive objective of getting as much money as possible. Hubbard himself admitted it many times.

P.P.P.S: www.xenu.net is a good source on information about $cientology.
