The amount of time between the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 to the reunification of West and East Germany in 1990 was incredible. The whole process was fast tracked, and the consequences of it are still visible to this day, with visible differences between former East and West in terms of industry, population and development. That got me thinking.
What if the reunification process was slower, giving East Germany time to reach a more equal footing with their Western counterpart? Would this have made any meaningful difference?
