WI Senator Sorensen

I came across a page -- turns out, Kennedy speechwriter Ted Sorensen was the party designate for the Senate in 1970, but he came in third during the primaries, the winner of which lost in a close race against James Buckley.

What if Sorensen had won the primary? Say he won the general -- what kind of Senator would he be? What are his prospects?

Very liberal, very conscientious and very dovish. In WWII he was a conscientious objector and never changed that stance through the CMC.

His prospects outside the Senate are not that strong: mild-mannered, shy, not that ambitious for himself. If he was trying to cash in on his Kennedy ties (despite being cordial if very distant from Bobby) then it did not work, and the family despised that sort of thing- anyone who tried it got brutally cut off. When Paul Fay wrote his personal memoir in remembrance of Jack, The Pleasure of His Company, the over-casual tone caused Bobby to disown him and despite a 25-year friendship with the family the 2 never spoke again. While Ted might not have gone to such extremes, Jackie would and did IOTL.
