WI: Senator Jesse Ventura

in 2008, Jesse Ventura had considered running for US senate in Minnesota against Norm Coleman and Al Franken but ultimately decided not to. What if he had ran for senate and won? What type of senator would he make?

Being a senator (or member of any serious legislature) requires a certain temperament, which honestly Ventura doesn't seem to have.

I imagine Ventura would try to use his position as a soapbox for his various obsessions and concern himself with national issues -both real and imagined- and neglect his duties to the voters in Minnesota. Also the Senate itself has a fairly low tolerance for members who refuse to play by the rules. Ventura would find himself ostracized and would likely be voted out after his first term.

Now, if he ran for the House I could see him taking and holding a seat for a few terms. If Ron "newsletters" Paul and Cynthia "JEWS" McKinney can gain a seat then surely Ventura can.

Jesse Ventura constantly acts like he's going to run for office, does not, and then brings it up again for another election. He likes the attention.

After the end of his term as Minn. governor, Jesse often went on the Geraldo show, where he was invariably the voice of sanity and reason. Based on that, I'd say he would have made a terrific Senator. On the other hand, as the years passed, Jesse got involved in really nutty conspiracy theories, which indicates there was something unstable about him and a lack of critical thinking ability on some level. But maybe if he'd been in the Senate he wouldn't have been tempted into hosting a conspiracy TV show and getting sucked into the dark side. Even if he still became influenced by conspiracism to a lesser extent, however, it wouldn't have made him any different from the folks in Congress who think Obama is a secret Muslim or that Hillary did A, B, C or D.
