WI Saddam Hussein dies in the 1994

What would have happened if for some reason three years after the 1st Gulf War Hussein died? how would the affect the Kurdish Civil War, US-Iraqi relations as well as the disarmament crisis with the UN?

Depends on who takes over. One of the generals, or one of his psychotic sons. In the former I'd suspect a continuation of Baath military rule, but perhaps with an excuse for detente with the US, possibly butterflying any future US-led invasion. In the latter expect bad juju all around, possibly a full-on uprising with resulting enthic clashes when Uday's fetishes and sadism begin to shock even the Baathists.

One of the young lads just takes over to continue the insanity!
Actually, Saddam had angina and it seems one of the drugs he took to control it made him feel invicible!

If Hussein Kamil takes over, he goes public with the extent of Iraq's old WMD program...and the knowledge that it's gone. He'd make a great leader, bTW. Of course, King Hussein (no relation) may have plans to take over. Further, once Saddam goes, the Kurds up North and the Shi'a in the South may decide to take off on their own.

The problem with any apparent removal of WMD's is that a lot of the plant needed for totally legitimate chemical and pharmaceutical processes are dual use.

The knowledge of how to produce CW and BW are at the very least going to locked up in people's heads (and in some case on the net.....) so unless you are going to tell Iraq it cannot have any chemical or pharmaceutical plant whatsoever and you lop off the scientists heads, you have problem.

Even banning the sale of chemicals etc as the countries in the Australia Group subscribe to, would be a problem as Iraq had already shown that this could be bypassed by buying perfectly legitimate chemicals and using them to produce the banned precursors that are needed for CW.

I've noticed from posting elsewhere, that is something the 'no WMD were found in Iraq' crowd don't like to hear, though in their defence, it is also not something that was pointed out from the start - too much 'nasty home truth' I suspect.
