WI: Russian-Japanese Soviet Union

Inspired by these two threads:

Red Sun Rising pretty much proved that we could have a communist revolution in Japan around the same time as we had one IOTL Russia. While it's true that, in that TL, Russia and Japan pretty much switched roles and so there wasn't a communist revolution in the first, I think that, if the author didn't specifically intend to do that, we could've had two revolutions. Even with a clear victory in the Russo-Japanese war, Russia would still be messed up enough for that.

So, let's say that communist revolutions happen in both countries, they kickstart civil wars, and then those civil wars are won by communists. If that happens, than it's possible (I didn't say very likely, just possible), that revolutionary fervour centered around proletarian internationalism might lead to the creation of a single "Soviet Union" including both countries plus Manchurian and Korea.

You may be skeptical of this, but remember that the first years after a revolution are always a bit crazy (so strange things can happen) and internationalism was considered to be a key tenent of Socialism at this time.

So, how would this play out in your opinion?

My thoughts are:
  • TTL's soviet union is composed of: All SSR's that we had IOTL+ Japanese Federal SSR (including Formosa and Sakhalin)+ Korean SSR+ Manchurian SSR
  • The Japanese and Russian SSRs would likely be equal in influence, which makes for a more balanced soviet union. Russification campaigns are likely averted
  • With the inclusion of the Japan, this Soviet Union is more industrialized from the begginning and it may be more successful
  • There were lots of anarchists and syndicalists in Japan's early socialist movement, so maybe we can see more focus on workers self-management or stuff like that
  • More anti-imperilialist rethoric is likely
PS: At the moment I have my hand full with my Portuguese Asia TL (which I had to put on hiatus for research since I realized I knew close-to-nothing nothing about 15th century India), but, if anyone wants to team up with me we could write this as well! Unless you think it's too crazy :p

I can see a very pro West China being created as the neighborhood just got rougher

Yeah, maybe China goes fascist due to the soviet threat, and then enters wwii on the axis side (that is, if there still is a wwii, we may have to change the outcome of wwi in order to make this work).

Anyway, China will probably still go communist as well at some point.

Hope you guys don't mind if I bump this.

I think it's an interesting scenario, and plausible if it happens during an early revolutionary period. It also doesn't suffer from the same problems as all of those Chinese SSR scenarios. Contrarily to what happens with China, Japan's population is comparable to Russia's, which means they wouldn't completely take over the Union.
