WI Russian Imperial Family escapes in early 1918

Well how about the former Czar organising a government-in-exile claiming that his abdication was illegal? He could get some bonus points from that.

In what? The all-Slavic futile gestures championship? :p

I don't why we're so hung up on Nick. Although the Whites might have restored the monarchy had they won, him not being on charge would have been a big plus. His goose was cooked.

Like I said, best bet is to either have Grand Duke Mikhail Alexandrovich (Michael II) escape as well, and form a GiE that would have offered a constitutional Monarchy, have Tsarveich Alexis named as the rightful Emperor and heir to the throne, or a combination of the two.

AFAIK the british king didnt want the russian family to go to britain as that would stoke revolution there. If they flee to Britain wouldnt that stoke revolution in Britain as well as the King considered that a real threat.

Why would the Tsars of all people lead to a revolution? They were among the most conservative, backward leaders in Europe during WW1? BTW, please do not take offense but I feel it needs to be said now better than later: Perchance could you check your spelling and punctuation to ease our understanding and reading of your posts?

The point is that since "Hands off Russia!" had a lot of currency at the time and the government was already twitchy about the possibility of working-class revolution, nobody wanted to be seen standing too close to the old regime. It may well have been an empty fear - most people cared about things like hours and rents more than foreign monarchs - but nobody felt like risking it.

I edited my post. Sorry, for some reason today my spelling is worse then earlier. Part of it is I just got good internet access posting on forum for the first time in a while or something.

The Tsars going to the UK would piss off the UK working classes as people are angry over aiding the ruling class of another country against the workers of those country and that would increase the discontent.

In my opinion too Nicholas II was a weak ruler indeed... But he was the legitimate Czar and had he escaped he could be used as a symbol of unity for the whites.
However if the whites prevailed and monarchy was restored they could put him on the throne as a puppet King while some powerful figure would be the power behind the throne.
Or if he proves to be a pain in the ass they could force him to abdicate in favour of Alexey but this could lead to some serious side-effects (as it would bring memories from Nicholas's first abdication) and force the whites to stick with option 1.
