For a time during the early months of WWI Russia was poised to enter the flat Hungarian plain. Having taken most if not all of the Carpathian Mountain passes and having the Austro-Hungarians on the retreat, Hungary seemed destined to be invaded. Is that game over for Austria-Hungary? Or could Germany and the Dual Monarchy still salvage the situation?
