Wi:Rss as Dominant Indian independence movement

RSS could not have been the main independence group. There are too many Muslims in India for a Hindu nationalist group to rise.

i was thinking along the lines of it being the main independance group for the Hindu community

i was referring to it being the main independance group for the Hindu community

How would you do that? The INC was the main independence group for the Hindus since pre-1900. It was also the main independence group for the Muslims before the Muslim League was formed, but that's another story.

Could the British destroy the INC or the congress breaks apart or something like .

That would cause riots and immense troubles. The British are smart enough to realize that killing the INC would be catastrophic.

And as for the INC breaking apart, that's exactly what the Muslim League was.

The organisation called RSS was started only in 1925, and it was not in active politics for a time. In fact the Hindu nationalists had Hindu Maha Sabha as a counterpart to Muslim League. Muslim League was not formed by a split in the Congress Party. It was formed as a party of Muslim landlords and elite and didn't have a mass base. It was propped up by the British and it became relevant as a party only when Jinnah joined it and took over the leadership.
Jinnah started his political career as a secular nationalist member of INC and had despised the Muslim League. But he didn't get the prominence he expected as an intellectual in the INC and was almost sidelined after the rise of Gandhi. This made him bitter and first he withdrew from politics for a short period and returned and joined the Muslim League only to teach the Congress a lesson. Jinnah who was always dressed in Western suits, who prefered to have a sip of whisky and also bacon, who never visited any mosque, and was married to a Parsi lady, was the most unlikely leader of conservative Muslims. It is interesting to note that in this case he was similar to V.D.Savarkar, the President of Hindu Maha Sabha. He was not a conservative Hindu, and was almost an atheist who was not interested in praying in a temple or performing rituals. He too considered the religion as a tool or weapon to fight with and not an idol to worship.
During the period before independence it was Hindu Maha Sabha that was in limelight and RSS kept in background. After independence when it was banned following the assassination of Gandhi, RSS formed its own political party, Bharatiya Jan Sangh. BJS joined Janata Party in 1977, left it in 1980 and formed BJP. It must be noted that RSS is not under BJP, but it is the mother organisation and controls many other organisations like VHP, BMS, ABVP, and dozens of others. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Party president Amit Shah always consult RSS leaders before taking important political decisions.
