WI: RP President Magsaysay survives '57 plane crash

If the then-incumbent President of the Philippines Ramon Magsaysay was at least the lone survivor of the C-47 plane crash back in 1957, what would happen to the Philippines then?

  • Will a Civil War occur between the new generations of Huks and the Filipino soldiers?
  • Will there be no Martial Law, no People Power, or no EDSA 2?
  • Will the Third Republic of the Philippines continue until at least today?
  • What will happen to the Philippine economy?
  • Will ASEAN still exist?
  • Will the Philippines join OECD because of Magsaysay's economic reforms near the end of his latest term?
  • Will the Vietnam and Korean wars end sooner or later than in real-life?

I don't think Magsaysay surviving a plane crash in 1957 is going to have much of an effect on a war that ended in '53. Otherwise, I am in no way knowledgeable enough about the Philippines to comment on your other ideas.

I'm always surprised why then-Senate Majority Leader Marcos didn't challenge Garcia in the Nacionalista primary in 1961. If he had, he might've defeated Macapagal. But Marcos still becomes President, though he might go the GMA route of Cha-Cha rather than ML if he starts before his second term.
