WI: Roosevelt backs Wendell Willkie as his Runningmate

Historically, Roosevelt had proposed that he and Willkie run on a unity ticket. Wendell had at the time been a major supporter of Rossevelt (despite having opposed him only four years prior), and had become a champion of the more progressive elements in political society. However, even if it had flown, would the Democratic Party bosses have accepted it? And assuming that Willkie does not die in October, and takes on after Roosevelt, does he handle things differently than Truman?

I don't think it would have flown- especially not since they knew Willkie was in poor health. He had destroyed himself by getting curbstomped in '40 and also curbstomped in the Wisconsin ballot in '44.

Assuming that unlike in OTL Wilkie lived until December 1944 (when electors voted) who was FDR's Sec of state and would it have changed when that person became in effect VP?
