WI: Ronald Reagan as Superman

I'm becoming slowly convinced that subconscious support for Reagan is because he looked like Clark Kent/Superman. What if Ronald Reagan had played Superman? OTL, there was a 1948 serial, a 1950 serial, and the 1951 film that lead into the series.

By 1980, one of two things would happen. Either he is elected president on a much bigger landslide and hands Carter his head on the way out the White House door...or he never enters politics because of a more illustrious acting career.

How more American can you get, really? Small town child of a drunk, turned Hollywood actor, turned politician and President. Throw in Superman, and I think Reagan would turn into Red, White and Blue light.

He didn't IOTL. But he did play the role of Captain America (with guns)... :D

On the other hand, his acting career could actually end earlier, because he could be typecast as Superman. In that case, his political career could start earlier.

I thought Reagan might've been too old to play Superman, even in 1948, so I looked at Kirk Alyn's Wikipedia page. Turns out, Alyn was actually a year older than Reagan, and George Reeves was only three years younger. He's the right age to play Superman, after all.

I think 1948 would be better, since it's before he really got politically involved. Maybe Reagan tries out for the Superman role to give his career the big boost he needed to get out of making B-movies. His good looks and All-American charm convince the producers to cast him. In 1948, Ronald Reagan stars as Clark Kent/Superman in Columbia Pictures' Superman serial.

Meanwhile, an unknown actor named John Feggo, Jr. tries his luck in a different field, namely politics...
