How would Paul do against Lloyd Doggett?
Also, even in the unlikely event Gramm is caught with the proverbial dead girl or live boy, the Texas GOP Establishment would be far more likely to back Robert A. Mosbacher Jr. than Paul.Gramm defeated Paul 73.3% to 16.5%. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1984_United_States_Senate_election_in_Texas I just don't see how Paul could possibly have gotten the nomination.
Eh, I could see Paul winning a Senate nomination in like the 2000's if the Dems are presiding over the War on Terror and provoking a libertarian/paleoconservative backlash. The only way I see Paul getting a senate nomination is absent a primary runoff system, and in a heavily divided field where he comes in with a plurality below thirty percent of the vote. But Texas had a very well-established system of runoffs, at least as far back as 'Landslide Lyndon'.
Nowhere go on this one.
